October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed across the country as well as around the world. The month is set aside for to encourage women to seek early detection screenings, to raise funds for both research and education; and to support patients and their families financially.

Since 1985, the initiative has grown from a simple pink ribbon – the iconic symbol of breast cancer awareness – to efforts by thousands of organizations, corporations and groups. Pink products, “think pink” campaigns, and events such as races and golf tournaments are all prolific. Perhaps this is because the disease continues to affect 1 in 8 women; and most of us have been touched in some way by this disease.

Courage

Flowers play an important role in our lives in so many ways. We send flowers to celebrate, to congratulate, and to comfort.
